The network of international students from Kobe University has a new member to add to the existing countries/region of Korea, Taiwan, China and Vietnam, a well as the students resident in Japan. On August 30, the "Kobe University Alumni Association in Indonesia" was inaugurated with the aim of establishing an overseas base for Kobe University as part of it's follow-up activities for ex-international students. Over 30 people were in attendance at the ceremony including Prof. OHTA, the Vice President of Kobe University in charge of International Exchange, members of Kobe University International Student Center, and members of partner universities and their alumni members.

At the inaugural speech, Vice President OHTA pointed to the close relationships between Kobe University and universities in Indonesia through programs such as the assistance for the Sumatran Earthquake, joint research with the Tropical Disease Center at Airlangga University, and educational programs between Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies of Kobe University and several universities in Indonesia. Dr. Amin Soebandrio, a graduate of Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine and now in post in the Indonesian Government, gave a speech to welcome the formation of the association and wish it well in the future.

Dr. Erwin S. Widodo (a graduate of the Graduate School of Science and Technology of Kobe University in 2004) was elected to oversee the running of the association. Dr. Yuli Setyo Indartono (a graduate of the same school in 2006) was selected as the president for the central committee formed from 4 districts such as Jakarta-Bandung, and expressed his wish to see the association grow to include as many members as possible in the future. Vice President OHTA presented the association with an official flag at a handover ceremony (see the upper-left photograph).

The inauguration ceremony was fully attended followed by a celebratory reception held in a friendly atmosphere. The party was attended by 2 Japanese graduates of Kobe University and now posted in Jakarta. They also expressed their delight with the formation of the association to further promote contact between graduate students.

Of the 1,011 international students at Kobe University as of May 2008, Indonesian students are the third largest group after China and Korea, with over 180 graduates. The activities of the "Kobe University Alumni Association in Indonesia" are a vital as one of the main hubs of the university's activities to promote international education and research.

韓国、台湾、日本国内、中国、ベトナムに続き、卒業留学生のネットワークの輪がさらに広がりました。留学生のフォーロアップと神戸大学海外拠点づくりを目的に、8月30日（土）ジャカルタで「インドネシア神戸大学同窓会」の発足会が開かれました。本学から国際交流担当太田博史副学長、留学生センター教員をはじめ、神戸大学卒業生や協定大学の関係者30人余りが参加し盛大に開かれました。発足総会では、太田副学長の記念講演も行われ、世界へ飛躍する神戸大学の現状を熱く語られました。とりわけ本学とインドネシアとの関連プロジェクトに触れ、スマトラ沖地震・津波への支援として「緊急医療援助、災害調査・復旧復興支援のための３年間の取り組み」や医学部のアイルランガ大学熱帯病センターにおいて、インドネシアにおける新興・再興感染症国際共同研究拠点の取り組み、国際協力研究科のインドネシア大学、ガジャマダ大学、バンドン工科大学との「三極連携による複数学位教育プログラム」など、本学とインドネシアの大学との密接な関係について述べられました。来賓祝辞では、神戸大学医学研究科で博士を授与され、現在インドネシア政府の研究技術大臣補佐であるAmin Soebandrio博士より神戸大学との共同研究での思い出が披露されました。「本日発足する同窓会が神戸大学とインドネシアとの絆をより強くするもので、いよいよ今日からが本当の意味でのスタートになる」と強く激励のことばを述べられました。

発足総会では、Dr. Erwin S. Widodo（自然科学研究科農学系2004年修了）より役員団と顧問団の推薦の弁が行われ、全員一致により承認されました。ジャカルタ・バンドン地区をはじめ四つの地域で構成される支部を統括する中央組織の初代会長にはDr.Yuli Setyo Indartono（自然科学研究科工学系2006年修了）が選出されました。ユリ氏は、2004年スマトラ沖地震・津波の災害時にインドネシア留学生会の代表として募金活動や支援活動を献身的に行ったことから多くの卒業生から厚い信頼を集めています。ユリ氏は会長の受諾演説を通して大学の多くの方々から協力を得て発足することに心からの敬意を表し、本会の活動が卒業生と大学にとって誇りになるように卒業生とともに力を合わせ邁進していきたいと述べました。その後、同窓会の宣言文をユリ氏が読み上げると全員が起立し、力強く斉唱する中、厳粛に同窓会の発足が宣言されました。その後、太田副学長が「この旗には、大学とともに歩んでいくという意味が込められている」と説明され、「インドネシア神戸大学同窓会」の旗が贈られました。

発足総会後には全員が参加して祝賀会が和やかな雰囲気の中で進められました。とくに工学部を卒業され、日本企業の駐在員としてジャカルタ在住の日本人卒業生２名も出席され、「インドネシアで神戸大学卒業生と新たな輪が出来たことは大変喜ばしいことだ」と述べ、インドネシア卒業生との歓談のひとときを楽しんでいました。今回の発足会の報告は、9月27日に開催される「第５回留学生ホームカミングデイ」で初代会長のユリ氏が行う予定です。

本学の留学生数は、2008年5月に1011名に達していますが、国籍別人数では中国、韓国に続き、インドネシアからの留学生が3番目になっています。また、卒業留学生数も、医学研究科の論文博士31人を加え、180人あまりとなっています。本学の海外教育・研究の展開において、海外ネットワーク拠点の一つとしての同窓会の活性化は欠かせない重要な要素です。

この度の「インドネシア神戸大学同窓会」の発足によって、留学生センターが長年取り組んできた留学生フォローアップと海外ネットワークの事業が一歩進んだ形となり、本学の留学生受入れトップ５の国に神戸大学同窓会が設立されることになりました。これらを契機に他の地域にも海外ネットワークが構築できることを期待しつつ、既存の同窓会についても、ますますの発展を祈念するものであります。
