The 3rd International Student HCD 2006
The 3rd International Student HCD 2006
The Homecoming took place at the Rokko Centennial Hall on November the 11th. It is a biennial event, the purpose of which is the promotion of various exchange and mutual cooperation among international graduates, students, and faculty. This year we talked about the networking of Kobe University's overseas reunion societies.
The Homecoming representatives planted a memorial SAKURA tree in front of the KISC building during the ceremony. We hope our SAKURA tree will be enjoyed by many graduates and students when they visit KISC in the spring.
After an elegant Chinese traditional music session played by Ms. Aiqin Cai (graduated in 1998) with strings and harp, Prof. Nogami, Kobe University President, gave a speech on the importance of alumni to improve the university’s educational efficacy and research profile on an international scale. Prof. Nino, the president of GAKUYUKAI, was next, delivering a speech on the pathway of Kobe University's globalization and the necessity of close liaison with international reunion societies, which are considered vital to Kobe University's international hub.
Homecoming representatives from 6 nations: Indonesia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Korea, China and Japan, gave a report on their current activities and future prospects. Among the proposals were detailed plans for a better networking process and advice on how the university and international students can maintain relations in the long term.
Amid calls for increased international competitive strength on the part of the university, it was said that global networking is an essential element for university. We discussed how to build bridges between universities, and how developing high-quality foreign human resources and organizations is directly linked to the university's globalization.
Kobe University currently has around 1,000 international students and more than 3,500 international alumni. We reaffirmed the need to provide a chance to connect the university to people, and the people to each other on this Homecoming day.
