The 27th Memorial Day of 1995 South Hyogo Prefecture Earthquake (Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake), 05:46 Tuesday, January 17th, 1995. 6,434 (final estimate as of 2006) people including 39 students (7 internaional students), 1 professor emeritus, 2 staffs and 2 co-op staffs of the Kobe University lost their lives as a result of the earthquake.
